Writing Focus:

- We are learning and discussing differences between reversible or physical changes in matter VS. irreversible or chemical changes in matter.

Social Studies:

-This week, we are working in groups writing a campaign commercial for our four candidates below. There will be a school vote, after the other classes view our campaign commercials, on the animal that people would want to be the new national symbol of Canada.

-Wednesday and Friday (Grade 5 students will be participating in Health classes)
-Thursday (Come join us on multicultural night from 6-8. It will be a wonderful experience)
- Start collecting pledges for Jump Rope and Hoops
- Bowling for Jacob permission forms are due by Friday

This week in Math, we will be reviewing our 2-D geometry unit and having an assessment on Thursday.
We will be doing review at school on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
For extra practice at home visit:

- Practice all headings under Chapter 7: 2-D geometry: math practice

Grade 5:
- Practice all heading under Chapter 7: 2-D geometry: math practice

Science:

Writing:

Last Friday students were to hand in their good copy of their Narrative writing. If you have not already done so, they need to be handed in to me this week. Thanks!!!

Math:

This week we will be working on measuring angles using protractors. Please bring in a protractor by Tuesday.

Holes Vocabulary (Ch 18-28)

Writing:

The students are almost ready to type up their final drafts of their narrative writing pieces. They were asked to type up their final drafts at home. If they do not have access to a printer or computer, they were given the opportunity to type thier good copies at school during homework club!

Narrative Checklist:

Beginning:
- Setting and Characters
Middle:
-Conflict (Problem)
-Attempts to solve the problem

-Solution

Important Features in our Narrative Writing: (Ask yourself:)
adding dialogue  (Do my characters speak in my story?)
- SHOW not tell   (Did I add enough description and details to help the reader visualize my story?)
- punctuation   (Do my sentences have the proper punctuation?)
- new connecting words (Did I make sure to use different connecting words so the same words don't repeat too many times througout my story?)
- title: (Does my story have a catchy title?)
I didn't use Once Upon a Time (Did I come up with an original introduction?)
- DOES MY STORY MAKE SENSE?
