Important Events This Week:

-French Tests Signed and returned.
-We will be having a probability quiz on Thursday this week.
- The students were to have picked a book for the reading fair by Monday, May 27. They will be sent home with a rubric for their assignment and a trifold on Tuesday. They are expected to be finished their reading fair projects NO LATER THAN June 7th. If they are finished earlier than June 7th they are more than welcome to bring in their projects early.

Words of the Week:
-words are the same as last week. They are trickier words, so the students will have time to play around with them in calss this week.

Writing:
The students have been working on explaning a chemical change in matter. They are in the process of writing explanations about how the matter changes.

Math:
We are finishing up our Fractions Ch 12 this week and will have a test on Friday. The students were told last week that the test would be on Thursday, but it will be changed to Friday.

Review:
 Gr.4- go to chapter twelve and practice

Gr.5- go to chapter twelve and practice

Science:
Finishing up our Changes in Matter Unit (Mini Quiz on Wednesday)

Important Events This Week:

- Bring a USB stick if you want your campaign commercial saved on it.

- Track at Northern was postponed due to the weather on Tuesday and we will be going on Thursday to Northern for the Track meet. (green slips were sent home explaining this)

-There is no Math Problem of the week. Students should be practicing for the test on Friday.

-Jump Rope Pledge Sheets need to be handed in on Friday (Jump rope will take place on Friday)

-Field Day for the track and field will also take place on Friday

PLEASE WEAR PROPER CLOTHES AND SHOES FOR TRACK AND FIELD ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

The results for the campaign:


I want to thank all the students for their hard work creating their campaigns.
I would also like to thank all of the students and their families for putting so much effort into helping with the campaign. The whole school had lots of fun.

As you must have heard, Sam the Grey wolf was the winner of the election. 
The votes were close and everyone deserved to win!!!!!!

As a result of Sam's party winning the election, Cathcart has adopted a Grey Wolf from the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).  We have been sent a certificate, and their is more information coming in the mail. 

 

Important:

-If you would like a copy of the video of your campaign commercial please bring in a USB that is EMPTY. Also, make sure to label the USB stick, so I know what commercial to put on it. 
- Also, our track meet is at Northern this upcoming Tuesday, May 14th. If you have not brought in your permission slip, you need to do so by Monday.

Writing Focus/ Science:

The students are writing explanations of how a chemical change happens. They choose from the following four to research. (How rust forms ?, how and egg cooks, how wood burns, how vinegar  and baking soda make carbon dioxide gas)

Francais:

Cathcart students and parents are invited to watch the grade 5/6 class perform Cendrillon/Cinderella on Thursday May 9th at 9:15 a.m. in our gymnasium. Loonies and toonies are being collected to help support a school in North Africa built by Mme. Shrumm's colleague in France, El Houssine Lasfar. THe gr. 5/6 students in Miss Evan's class are excite to help provide water and school supplies for these children through our donations. Come early to get a seat and enjoy the show! Candidates: We are holding an election on May 10th for Cathcart students from grades 4-8. Watch the video to see what our class is doing for education week. The students have been creating campaign commercials that the students from grades 4-8 will watch before they vote. This week, we are filming our commercials.
